Vegetation is a composition of blood clots and micro-organisms. Vegetations are often of irregular structure, hyper-mobile and fixed to the free edge of one valve. Vegetations develop on the "upstream" side of the valve, usually ventricular side aortic valve or mitral valve of atrial side. Vegetations on the tricuspid valve are most commonly seen in intravenous drug use.
